Historical day in the US

A few days ago, in a 5-4 ruling by the Supreme Court, gay marriage was declared legal in the US and "the right to marriage equality was enshrined under the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment." I congratulate the US people for such a historic landmark. I read it from: http://www.theguardian.com/society/2015/jun/26/gay-marriage-legal-supreme-court But boy, I didn't think it would be that close. This case was brought about by Jim Obergefell, who "sued the state to get his name listed on his late husband’s death certificate". Opponents to this brought up two points: (1) "...marriage was defined by law solely to encourage procreation within stable family units – and therefore could only meaningfully apply to men and women" and "...the court should not get too far ahead of traditional conceptions of marriage that are limited to a man and a woman." which was rebutted by: "The Constitution promises liberty to all within

If only...

...and so she asked the two Harringtons to come, but Harriet was ill, and so Pen was forced to come by herself-"  Elizabeth presently drew her Katana and cut off Lydia's head, which fell into the open hatbox.  The others looked on in a state of silent shock as a torrent of blood sprang forth from Lydia's neck, staining their dresses. Elizabeth sheathed her blade, and in a most delicate tone, said "I beg you all forgive me, but I could stand her prattling no longer." However, when she spared another glance toward Lydia, she was surprised to see her head very much attached.  "Lord! How I laughed!" continued her younger sister. "And so did Mrs. Forster. I thought I should have died."  Elizabeth sighed. If only she could really  cut off Lydia's head. - "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith

Water droplet @Ichiban Boshi

Last month when Ban and I went to Ichiban Boshi, they had this item on a temporary menu: Interesting, isn't it? But what was it? RM5.90 is expensive for a huge droplet of water :) It turned out to be a mochi - a Japanese rice cake. Staff there should have taken a little time to tell customers this when promoting this dessert. The word "water" simply stood out, and not "mochi". Did we try? Nope. Ban wasn't interested and their salmon set was more than enough for me.

Lafayette @Damansara Uptown

One day, Ban and I wanted to dine at Hokano but alas we forgot that it was Tuesday (hehehe), which is Hokano's rest day. So I suggested trying out this Japanese restaurant (Wakon, I think) but the food wasn't suitable for us. Too many fried food. Ok, ok, actually it was because I wanted sushi but they had none hehehe. On the way to Wakon, we saw this: So we decided to try Lafayette instead. Order was made and paid upfront at the counter, after this we were given this: I ordered this: Seafood pasta (RM18.90). The portion is a little petite for its price. The taste was just right but a quite spicy. Normally I'm indifferent to squid but these squid slices were tender and not the usual chewy kind. There were 5 small shrimps and a mussel. Not bad but I wish the portion is a little larger. I wanted to order blended chocolate banana drink but they said they had replaced it with shake version. Bummer. A staff recommended this drink instead: Elder Flower (

Balls

She remembered the lead ammunition in her pocket and offered it to him. "Your balls, Mr Darcy?" He reached out and closed her hand around them, and offered, "They belong to you, Miss Bennet." Upon this, their colour changed, and they were forced to look away from one another, lest they laugh. - "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies" by Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith Hehehe.

Robocraft

One day, Ban looked up the list of most played games on Steam and lo behold his eyes zoomed on Robocraft (among the top ten). He loves robots :) Although, as it turns out, it's not about robots, he still loves it because of the design aspect. Essentially, it's like playing Lego. You use cubes and parts to build tanks, bombers, helicopters etc ("robocrafts") and use one to battle in teams of two. He enjoys the battle part as well. At the design stage, he could spend whatever time necessary to figure out what effect does each part has on the robocraft. I, on the other hand, don't have that much patience. It's harder and more time-consuming to design one than to build a Duel of Champions deck. I prefer to look at other people's design and modify it to my liking. In fact, my current SMG tank is designed by Ban :) It's a good game with some annoyance such as early quitters in battles. Not many name-callings (yet?) although I still wish there's an

Du Viet @Damansara Uptown

Yet another place that I had been wanting to try for ages lol. I finally visited it after my second appointment with the dentist to treat my recently cracked tooth . It was around 2pm when I left the dental clinic. Upon the administrator's recommendation, I was walking towards a shop where there's famous nasi lemak and fried chicken. However, I passed by Du Viet and finally remember that I wanted to eat there haha. I ordered the mixed beef noodle for, I think, RM24.90. It was like RM10 cheaper than Pho Hoa. It was so filling and delicious too. Knowing that Ban likes eating beef noodle, I told him about this restaurant and we went there soon for dinner. This time, I ordered the Hanoi-style beef noodle (RM15.90). The soup was good and tenderloin was just right. The noodle was average. Overall, I like it but I prefer the mixed version :) I decided to try their lemongrass ginger tea (RM9.90), which was served with syrup on the side. It was soothing and had

Helpful...or not?

One morning, while Ban was asleep (he is obsessed with Robocraft recently; go check it out! :P ), I noticed that the light switches in the kitchen were a little brown (beige colour) and have patches of black. Yuck! Imagine how much grime/dirt/dust it took to turn them from pure white to that patches of colours. So I used a rough sponge dipped in soapy water (made up for water and some dishwashing detergent) to scrub it. It was a little tough and required much strength. I improvised by spraying a little Mr Muscle kitchen cleaning detergent on the sponge. I still needed to scrub hard but at least the beige and black stain could be removed. I took the before-and-after picture of the switches and repeated the process for all the switches in the house. Looking at the white switches, I felt quite proud :) So when he was awake, I showed Ban the photos. Me: See this? And then...ta-da! So clean, right? Ban: What happen to the paint? Me: Huh? What paint? Ban: I painted the switches

Heritage Village @Paradigm Mall

There used to be an outlet at Aman Suria but it had closed shop few years ago. Ban and I ate there only once. After checking with William, I wanted to try the one at Paradigm Mall but I kept forgetting lol. We kept going to either Chilli's, Sushi Zanmai or Sushi Q (which is closed as at now). So one fine day, I remembered and so we went to Heritage Village. And I totally forgot to take photos of the food I had :P I chose their RM11.90 set meal Curry Kapitan Chicken that included the drink sirap bandung. The first thing I noticed was the pickled vegetable side dish which I gave back to them. I don't like pickled food. The chicken dish was quite delicious. Its spiciness was mild and its sauce was tasty. It had 3 rather large pieces of chicken but overall it seems a little expensive at an ala carte price of RM10.90. Perhaps some may find it delicious enough to justify the price? *shrug* As evident from the photos above, the restaurant was decorated in Peranakan the
