Cholesterol 2020: Part 3

Results as compared to 4 months ago :                                 May 2020        Sep 2020          Ref. range Total cholesterol           6.3                 5.1                  < 5.2 HDL ("good")               1.70              1.89                > 1.04 LDL ("bad")                  4.1                2.9                 < 2.6 Triglycerides                 1.2                0.6                  < 1.7 Total/HDL ratio            3.7                 2.7                  < 5.0 Good results :) The changes I made were: (1) Took fenofibrate daily, instead of alternate days. (2) Consumed fish (almost all were salmon) at least twice a week. This probably explained the increase in HDL despite not taking any fish oil supplement. (3) Resumed swimming when the MCO rules were relaxed to allow it (subject to certain conditions). With the current daily rain in the afternoon, swimming has been cut down :( Also, raining = increased chance of allergic rhiniti

Paladins: Seris

Image
Seris probably pips the other supports, by a little, to be my favourite support mainly because of her healing (some auto-aim and once locks on target can continue channeling behind cover) and defensive mechanics (invisible and invulnerable).  Two of her talents are also super useful: Soul Collector is the default talent. It is the best talent for Seris's survivability, so much so that she can duel 1vs 1 other 2k-ish hp champions. I generally pick this talent if I feel that multiple enemies may flank me a lot. This is the current loadout set: (refer to this gamespedia for Seris's abilities, talents and cards)  Veil 3 Blood Pact 4 Spirit Leech 1 Fade to Black 2 Umbral Gait 5 Some gameplays: Soul Collector Seris players are sometimes disliked by their teammates for picking such selfish talent. However, I ask, is a dead Seris a better player? I believed that player should choose a loadout set and talent that first and foremost prioritise the champion's survivability and then o

11th anniversary

Eleven years of many ups and few downs. Love this man to bits! Muaccccck! We went out twice to celebrate. Firstly, we had lunch at Jyu Raku. I was pleasantly surprised that their lunch sets were avaialble during weekend too. The sets were exactly the same as their dinner sets but RM 3 cheaper.     However, the set I tried before, and still the preferred one, was too much for me and so I ordered this instead. The photo is missing a piece of salmon belly sushi because I forgot to snap a picture of it before eating :P I like this dish. First time I came across coffee jelly in a restaurant. The texture was just right and it wasn't too sweet. I would have preferred coffee with milk though. Later we had dinner at Dilmah Tea Restaurant. Just kidding :P It was at Three Little Pigs & The Big Bad Wolf. We qualified for this free gift, unintentionally, when Ban ordered I Am So Hungry I Could Eat A Wolf. They had a promotion of buy a drink and get another drink of the same type for free. D

Paladins: Grohk 3

Image
Many things have changed since I last played Grohk . Some cards are no longer available. Most importantly is the creation of the new talent Spirit's Domain. This dramatically increases Grohk's healing capability. I tried Maelstrom because it looked fun but I quickly abandoned it because of my lousy aim hahaha. Besides, being a support main, I'm already partial towards Spirit's Domain. I tried a couple of builds based on Youtubers' builds but I couldn't seem to stabilise.  So I checked PaladinsGuru for popular builds. All five builds had over 50% winrate. Four of them were quite obviously for the talent Maelstrom. So I used the odd one out for Spirit's Domain and it worked well so far. I'm just a little skeptical on the usefulness of the Spirit's Grace. It was only later I realised that this loadout is exactly the same as the loadout that the game already built for the Spirit's Domain talent. Fancy that. Just reminds me of Atlas Reactor where the

Nearly symmetrial cracked tooth (Part 2)

(continue from Part 1 ) Instead of two weeks, I received a call from the clinic nine days later informing me that it had arrived. I gladly accepted an earlier appointment offered on that day itself. The whole process took 45 mins, most of it was spent on adjusting the height of the tooth and also ensuring that the mouth guard could still be used comfortably. Unfortunately, the tooth was became extra sensitive and painful the following day. It was even more sensitive before fitting in the new crown. The dentist checked the tooth and asked some questions. She said she would treat it as sensitive tooth at the moment and applied some treatment. However, if it didn’t get better, then root canal would be the likeliest option :( As advised, I brushed with sensitive toothpaste (as I’ve always done anyway) and applied it directly on it at least twice a day. I was asked to monitor it for a week before deciding to consult her or not. Hence, I was pleasantly surprised to receive a call f

Paladins: Corvus

It has been almost 3 years since I played Paladins. Last I blogged about it was in May 2013 . The last time I stopped playing because many players, including me, weren't happy about the developer's planned changes to the cards system. They did scrap that plan but I didn't go back to it because, as someone who loves to play support, it was ridiculous that Cauterize 3 reduced healing by 90%. Normally at that point, support was supposed to concentrate on doing damage rather than healing. I don't like because, hey, if I want to do damage, I would have played DPS champion. Recently, I discovered that they nerfed Cautrize by reducing the % at each level, and so at level 3, it's now 75%. So I went back playing it again. First problem encountered was that the game treated me like a new player and there was no way, in game, I could get back my old account. Hence, I created new one but I'm sad because I have already unlocked many characters in the old account. I sent a su

(Seemingly) Lack of Moral

" Many of our clients appear to be amoral or immoral at times. Their parents react with distress and cannot understand how and why they seemed to forget all they were taught at home. I believe the failures of morality stem from the most important clinical observation about impaired executive functioning: much of the impairment is a matter of not being able to do two things at once . As mentioned earlier, these individuals live primarily in the present. They don't stop and think before acting. They can't think about how to get what they want and also think about the consequences of pursuing what they want, at the same time. Therefore, they don't think about the morality of their actions unless directed to stop and think by another person who serves as the missing executive function. In that event, they often make the right moral choice. " - "Adults on the Autism Spectrum: Leave the Nest, Achieving Supported Independence" by Nancy Perry

Orphan

I found you along the corridor. Either you were accidentally left behind or, even worse, discarded because your master no longer needed you :( I had in the past unsuccessfully taken care of your kind before: I had to be away from home for a week or so on a regular basis. I was hesitant to rescue you but I just couldn't leave you there. So I picked you up, thought of how best to rehabilitate you and also what I should do when I'm away. Thankfully you grew strong and seems to be happy at where you were placed. The true test came when I was away for slightly more than a week: twice this happened and you were still ok with it, with some preparation on my part. Yay! :) Hope you'll live a long and healthy life.

Scheme vs Plan

" The essential difference between a plan and a scheme is the difference in attention paid to the consequences. " - "Adults on the Autism Spectrum: Leave the Nest, Achieving Supported Independence" by Nancy Perry

Judgement

" The clients in my program come to know one another very well. They attend classess and groups together, they are paired as roommates at staff discretion, and they socialize together. Although they cherish these friendships, relationships that have eluded them all their lives, most of them do not hesistate to say terribly mean things to and about one another. They will tell one another that they smell bad, that they are fat, or ugly, or don't like the right music. But if a staff member intervenes and asks whether that was the right thing to do, most of our clients know, on reflection, that the comments were rude or insensitive or mean. They just aren't able to monitor themselves continuously, which would be required to prevent the hurtful and rude behaviors. Only our clients who are autistic or have Asperger's Syndrome are genuinely puzzled by our questions about the appropriateness of interpersonal behaviors. That group of clients defend their behavior on the ground
