Maybank's polar opposite & scam sms

Recently, I went with my sister to Maybank to open a joint account. The first checkpoint was the counter at front. The officer noticed that our addresses aren't the same in our ICs (which shouldn't be a surprise for adults!) and, in response to her question, we didn't bring our birth certs (whoever had thought of that?)

She was doubtful whethere we would be allowed to open a joint account (huh?) but nevertheless she let us try out luck. We were surprsied and I remarked that previously, I had no problem opening a joint account with my mum. She said (something like this), "Maybe previously it was possible but now maybe not. Still, I let you try".

Now, that, to me, was already a reasonable response (regulations/SOPs do change overtime) and it put her in a good light because, instead of saying no, she was letting us try our luck. However, she ruined it by saying, "If you don't want to give to me (your business), I'm fine with it." and gave us a rather irritated look. WTH.

Contrast this with the officer we dealt with later. She was the third officer insider to attend to us. First two processed our application, with the second one spending the most time with us. She did forwarn us that it would take a long time for opening joint account, like her previous two customers. However, she asked the third colleague for help when I had trouble receiving OTP via sms for the purpose of setting up account in MAE (the Maybank app).

The third colleague did a number of things, including calling technician at headquarter. After she made sure my problem was solved and further action was taken care by her colleague, she hurriedly left the office (we figured she was running late for her lunch) and yet took the time to tell us "Have a good day."

She was helpful, patient and not once she showed any sign of irritation or frustration, unlike the officer at the front counter. What a world of difference!

Oh, incidentally the reason why I couldn't receive the OTP was because I had that number blocked. Back in March, I received sms from that number, telling me that my credit card had more tahn 8,900 points and asked me to click a dubious link (maybankie2u lol) to redeem it. Naturally, I showed the officer this. Once the number was unblocked, I could receive fresh OTP.
