Shoddy journalism #2

(Emphasis is mine, to show the mistakes)

1. Malaymail article title: "Singapore top officials say sorry to Malaysia after nationwide uproar over stand-up performer’s crack; envoy says Jocelyn Chia no longer Singaporean". 

Offending sentence: "Chia’s social media accounts, including those on Instagram, no longer appear to have been removed or are no longer accessible."

 

2. FMT article title: "Resurgent Kenin proud to prove critics wrong with Wimbledon run"

Offending sentence: "Kenin said the turning point was a close match with reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina at Indian Wells earlier this year, where the American narrowly defeated 7-6(6) 7-6(5)."


3. FMT: Article title "6 defeats later, independent candidate still hopeful of winning one day". 

Offending sentence: "Despite facing defeat in two general elections and four state elections, independent candidate Izat Bukhary Ismail Bukhary, 56, is not deterred and is still determined to try yet again."


4. Malaymail: Article title "Survey: Malay voters’ concern about inflation and economy surpass race, religion, social issues". 

Offending sentence: "The overwhelming number one concern for Malay voters in all four states was inflation and the cost of living, with this issue being the first that was mentioned by 64.9 per cent of Malay voters polled in Terengganu, and 61.5 per cent (Terengganu), 52.3 per cent (Kelantan) and 59.5 per cent (Penang)."


5. Malaymail: Article title "Merdeka Center survey: Perikatan to make inroads in BN’s seats; but status quo for six state govts". 

Offending sentence: "Even though the surveys show PN will likely maintain and marginally expand their share of the Malay vote across all six states, these gains by PH would be “inadequate” for the coalition to take over the three PH-held states of..."
