Season of Ghosts: which build?

For sometime now, Ban and join had accepted invitation to join an acquaintance's discord server mainly for ttrpg games that he runs. Later, upon my suggestion, Ban and I attended one-shot sessions of a couple of games. Signed up for a third but that was canceled because of lack of players.

Despite having tried more systems, I'm still partial towards DnD's system. However, when the GM announced that he was looking for players for Season of Ghosts, an adventure path for Pathfinder 2e (now Remastered version), I decided to sign up for it after Ban agreed to do so too. It's the closest to DnD system and I had some experience with Pathfinder 1 from playing Wrath of the Righteous crpg, with lots of help and guidance from Ban. I am aware that Pathfinder is way more complicated than DnD.

One great thing about Pathfinder is that there are free character builders that incorporate nearly everything in the game. The one we're using is Pathbuilder 2e. It is only the animal companion that is behind a paywall. Contrast this with DnD: free builders are allowed to only incoporate the basics. The obvious reason is that DnD's owner, Wizard of the Coast, has its own paid character builder whereas Paizo, Pathfinder's owner, doesn't have. If not because of the more complicated system, I would readily recommend Pathfinder over DnD.

As usual, Ban and I try to be team players by picking classes to fill gaps in the team. I learned a valuable lesson when I once ignored this advice 😔

I initially wanted to play pure damage character but changed to main tank to fill a gap. However, we ended with two off-tanks: a melee druid with an animal companion and a melee swasbuckler. So there are four of use who wants to attack at melee range, including the animal companion, who is a bear. As an earth kineticist, I can comfortably attack at range as well.

The swashbuckler is actually quite tanky: his AC is either the same or just one lower than mine and his hitpoint is slightly less than mine.

So, at first I build my earth kineticist to eventually severely hinder enemies from going away from me and I continually punish them for being near me. Sounds good, right? But what's the point of this build if I have 3 teammates (bear included) who want to be next to the enemies?

(to be continued)
