Treatment period (Part 2)

Fortunately, a doctor did see mum on Monday and so she told her about the increasing uneasy feeling. I don't know whether her medicine was adjusted but she was ok on Tuesday: didn't hurt herself that morning and afternoon and the uneasy feeling subsided a lot. She could converse albeit slowly and did smile once.

She looked a little pale on Wednesday but otherwise, she was the same as the day before. She looked better the next day. Her giddiness worsened on Friday, to be as bad as before she was warded :( On Saturday, Sunday and Monday, it was so bad that she cut short the visit (only 5 mins with us and that too hardly conversed) because she wanted to nap.

On Monday, a doctor requested to meet me later in the afternoon to discuss about doing an extra ECT session on Friday and the possibility of mum going on vacation trial on that day as well. I took the opportunity to tell her that although mum no longer hear voices, she was slow to respond and her giddiness caused her to sleep the whole time. The doctor said that these were partly side effects of ECT but seems concerned about the severity of the giddiness and so she would raise this issue with the geriatric psychiatrist.

None of us could visit mum on Tuesday. She looked a little better on Wednesday and could stay on for about 50mins i.e. even longer than usual. Apparently I misunderstood the doctor: they scheduled a weekly ECT, rather than just one extra session. My guess was that in between, she would get to go home.

On Thursday, it was back again to just a mere 10-min visit: she had to go back in to lie down due to her giddiness :(

On Friday, she was allowed to go on home vacation for a week. Apparently the nurses at the outside counter wasn't told but luckily I told them that doctor said that was possible if she was ok. Yet again I was given different information about ECT: it was on ad hoc basis but one week apart if needed. Something like that @@

Her medicine during the vacation trial are as follows:
  • Clozapine 25mg day 50mg night
  • Sertraline 100mg night
  • Bisoprol 2.5mg day
  • Simvarstatin 20mg night
  • Gabapentin 300mg night
  • Betahistine 24mg day & night
  • Lactulose 15ml night
