#CucukMyAZ 1st dose
Malaysia government seprated out Astrazeneca (AZ) from the main national immunisation programme as they alleged that people were hesistant about taking that vaccine. "Alleged" i.e. didn't back it up with any statistic/survey/study etc.
So they instead opened it up for anyone to register, regardless of which 'phase' we were supposed to be in, on a first-come-first-served basis. The first exercise was conducted, through a website, on 2nd May, for Selangor residents. The second one would be on 23rd May but would be firstly reserved for those aged 60+, in Selangor, Penang, Sarawak and Johor. If there are leftover slots, then it will be opened to everyone (in the same states, presumably).
Getting a slot on 2nd May was akin to getting a cheap Air Asia ticket. It didn't help that, as later revealed by the government, the website was glitched. It opened at 12pm. By around 12.30pm, I suggested to Ban that he should go off to get us lunch while I would continue to click on both our laptops. Finally, I got slots for both of us at around 1.10pm: 16th May at UM. Later we were both given the appointment time 10am. Nice.
The whole process at the vaccination centre went very well. There was no hardly any queue at the entrance (only 2 other people were in front of us). There were ample personnel giving directions and so I didn't need to spend more than 2 seconds trying to figure out where and how. It was all over under an hour, and in time too for us to escape the heavy rain.
Since we didn't sleep well the night before and I didn't nap well in the late afternoon later the day of the vaccination, it was very difficult to judge whether the symptoms I had (tiredness, slight headache) were due to sleep deprivation or the vaccine's side effects. However, much later at night, I had low grade fever and that was likely one of the side effects.
It is true what I read online: the side effects were mostly gone within 2 days.
Here's a list of observational points:
1. 15/5 Didn't sleep well. Maybe only 5 hours of sleep, even lesser deep sleep
2. 16/5 Vaccinated. Fine right after it. Later, tired and pressure on head but could be due to sleep deprivation.
3. 16/5 Didn't nap well either but well enough to go out buy dinner
4. 16/5 At night: temperature started rising. 36.2, 36.4, 37.2. Took 2 tab paracetamol, gone to bed at 11pm
5. 16/5 Felt quite awful in bed: muscle ache, nasal allergy (took antihistamine), short breath (couldn't do usual deep breath), felt cold (in bed without fan, long pants, socks, blanket on)
6. 17/5 Got up at 12am shortly after the deep sleep music ended. Didn't feel as awful as an hour before but temperature was 37.3. Ate Weetbix with milk while watching videos.
7. 17/5 1am temperature 36.9. Went back to bed soon.
8. 17/5 5am temperature 36.5 although face felt warm. Nasal allergy, slight headache, body ache. Antihistamine, steroidal nasal spray, 1 tab paracetamol after ate Weetbix with milk while watching video.
9. 17/5 9.45am, 11.20am, 12.05pm: temperature 37.0, 36.8, 37.0. 1 tab paracetamol at 12.05pm
10. 17/5 1.55pm, 6.35pm temperature 36.9, 37.0
11. 18/5 12.25am, temperature 36.6
12. 18/5 5.30am, temperature 36.6. Sinus area quite painful, causing slight headache too. Took antihistamine. While trying to get back to sleep, started to get hungry. Had Weebix with milk and then 1 tab paracetamol, while started blogging. Went back to sleep shortly later.
13. 18/5 11.20am. All symptoms gone, including chills.
