Mostly without crutches
After the last physio's session, especially since the therapist opined that actually the right leg could bear full weight already, I've successfully went without the crutch while in the kitchen and in the bathroom i.e. just leave it aside. I could have my normal shower, without assistance. I didn't need to use the pushchair at all even when walking in the mall. For safety purpose, I still bring along a crutch when I went out.
Just before the end of week 6 post-surgery, I had a physio session. This was the new set of exercises:
1. Warm up calves with lunges. x3 each side.
2. Both heels on gym ball, hip width apart. Knees apart sightly wider than hip. Lift up hip such that soles are on the ball, count to 5 and lower down. x10 per set, 3 sets per session.
3. Same as (2) above but with left foot stack on right foot. x10 per set, 3 sets per session.
4. Right shin on gym ball at an angle with ankle on the edge i.e. heel just hanging. Left ankle on right lower thigh. Lift up hip, count to 5 and lower down. x10 per set, 3 sets per session.
5. Same as (2) above but moves clockwise x3 and anti-clockwise x3 before lower down. That's 1 set. 3 sets per session.
6. Chair pose, with hands out in front. x10 per set, 3 sets per session.
7. Static lunges i.e. lunge pose, back leg down 90 degree and up. Repeat 9x (i.e. total 10 rep) before reversing. That's 1 set. 3 sets per session.
8. Step up with right leg followed by left leg and then step down with left leg followed by right leg. x10. Repeat the other side. That's 1 set. 3 sets per session.
9. Micro bend right leg with left leg bent backward. 10x/set. 3 sets/session.
10. End with stretching calves with lunges. x3 each side.
In pool:
Dynamic lunges i.e. lunge pose, back leg down 90 degree. Then reverse. Do both legs.
I simply couldn't do (7), specifically when the right leg was at the back: there was immense pain somewhere within the knee (just behind the lower part of the knee cap) when I tried put the leg down 90 degree. Fortunatelly, I could do this in the pool.
In the meantime, upon the advise of the therapist, I started walking around our home without the crutch, which wasn't a problem at all. Yay!
At the next session, 3 days later, I informed her about not being able to do (7) at all. She got me to do a few exercise but only added one to be done at home: stand only on the right leg and micro-bend. x10 per set, 3 sets per session.
The rest of the exercises involved steps would be done at the centre instead.
Also, she explained that the pain was the area where surgery was performed, including the ligament. So I'm guessing that it would take time for it to go away.
