Lost

On our return trip from Canberra to KL via Melbourne, I was surprised to learn that we didn't need to check out our baggage at Melbourne. Instead, Qantas checked them through for us and sent them to MAS. I always thought that this happens only if both flights are operated by the same airlines. It seems that it also applies to partner airlines, presumably if tickets are bought from a single party, which is an additional benefit.

Both flights were good, except that MAS flight was delayed by about 2 hours and so lengthening our transit time to 5 hours! Reason was "delay in loading" @@

We purchased the seats at the emergency exit and that worked out well. I'll definitely do that again. I'm pleasantly surprised at how comfortable the seat was in the MAS plane: my tailbone didn't hurt at all but I still needed the support of the small pillow the provided. My only complain was that my feet were freezing :(

Unfortunately, we had a misfortune at KLIA later: our baggage didn't arrive :( At least two other passengers had the same issue. Airport staff checked and then later told us that all bags in KLIA had been cleared and so they suspected that our baggage was still in Melbourne. He then asked us to make a report at the Lost Baggage section.

Thereafter, Ban (who made the report) received updates via sms and email. We were also given a link to open up our report and from there, we also gave details to help Malaysia Airlines/MAHB (not sure who was responsible for tracking lost baggage) find our baggage, such as brand name of the luggages and their content. I also emailed them (upon their invitation) this information: at Melbourne Airport, we got our boarding passes at MAS check-in counter at about 3 hours before departure and the departure gate was Gate 16 then. However, about 20-30 minutes, that was changed to Gate 6. Perhaps the luggages were sent to the wrong gate?

Meanwhile, we went ahead to buy some replacement items because we couldn't just put our lives on hold, waiting for goodness-knows how long. The very next day, I bought new shaver (the same one as the current one; I purposely researched to see where I could get hold of it immediately and it was at Citta Mall's Harvey Norman) and used it immediately in the toilet haha. Later, we went to Decathlon PJ to get items for exercise (swim gear, gloves, gym attire, pilate band) and a backpack. Ban bought a couple of shorts and t-shirts at Paradigm Mall's FOS and we rounded up by purchasing slippers at a small shoe shop at Taman Mayang (manned by a friendly lady).

On the 8th day, we were notified that one luggage has been found but don't know which one (they tracked via bag tags and can only identify which one once they received them) and that it would be flown the next day from Melbourne. I wished hard for the other one to be found and it came true the next day when we were notified that both baggage were on their way to KLIA. We then received them in late evening that day. Yay!

Nothing was missing or damaged. Nice!
