Duel of Champions: Champion II & Swiss Tournament

At last! On 21 Sep, I reached Champion II tier :) Yay! On 23 Sep, I secured enough ranking points to be above the minimum points to retain that tier comes the next reset. I still need to ensure I play (and win) a duel once every week to avoid the decay in points (from lack of dueling).

I still suffer from heart palpitation and sometimes my hand shakes after a ranked duel. The above 2 duels were especially intense because of what was at stake. If I had lost, I would have lost points and thus be further away from the tier.

However, this unexpectedly came at the wrong time because Ubisoft decided to launch a global quest of some sort called the Week of Enrolment. Basically, from 25 Sep to 1 Oct, you'll need to level up a certain number of times (depending on your level as at 25 Sep) to receive 3 packs of cards of the next expansion (scheduled to be released in Oct). Hence, for my level, I need to level up 5 times.

Now, it's hypothesised by Ban and I that you get more experience from winning rather than losing a duel. It is, logically, harder for me to win duels at Champion II tier compared to Champion I. So far, I've leveled up only twice :( Admittedly, this was also a result of playing more Guild Wars 2 recently. The heart palpitation doesn't help either, although it occurs less often for unranked duels.

So I will need to concentrate fully on playing DoC exclusively these 2 days if I want to qualify for the gift.

Oh, incidentally, I've won my 9th Swiss tournament recently :) I won with Kat in Standard format. Previous wins can be found here.

Coliseum: 2nd time

So, we did have lunch at Coliseum again. I was hoping that this would be much better than the first time.

This time, I ordered the Grilled Perch Fish (RM 21.90).

Coliseum 12

The fish was fresh and smooth (2 important factors for me). The sauce was surprisingly light and perhaps a little too light for the fish. Then again, some people may like it that way as it certainly couldn't overwhelm the natural sweetness of the fish no matter how much of it was poured on it.

The sauteed vegetables (underneath the fish) were quite crunchy and not too oily. The small amount of salad was fresh (honestly, I rather have more of that than the sauteed vegetables). Mashed potato was smooth and was sufficiently salty without needing any sauce.

Overall, it was a good dish and it would be a dish I can order in future.

The only downside to this lunch experience was this Ice Blended Cappucino (RM 7). It was diluted. Definitely on my ban list.

Half a decade of togetherness

I wish to lengthen time as long as possible so that we can be with each other for that long. I love you, honey.

Never knew I could feel like this
Like I've never seen the sky before
Want to vanish inside your kiss
Everyday I love you more and more
Listen to my heart, can you hear it sings
Telling me to give you everything
Seasons may change winter to spring
But I love you until the end of time

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
It all revolves around you

And there's no mountain too high no river too wide
Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side
Storm clouds may gather and stars may collide
But I love you until the end of time

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day
Oh come what may, come what may
I will love you

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place...

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Inaho: 5th time

One day, I craved for ramen for whatever reason and so I contemplated having Inaho's Shoyu Ramen after gym for lunch. However, since Ban and I planned to have dinner at Ramen Ten (to be blogged about soon), I decided to try something else.

The salmon sushi looked similar to the one I had the first time. Unfortunately, its size was also inconsistent among the pieces (look at the first two pieces). It tasted quite nice, luckily.

The third piece was salmon belly sushi which was thick and juicy. Delicious!

The amaebi sushi was interesting: it had 2 pieces on a clump of rice. Juicy, unlike most I had.

They gave me the pickled ginger despite my request of not having it.

Salmon maki was back to its glorious tall large self, like the 1st time and in contrast with the 2nd time I had it.

Once again, this restaurant has proven to be consistent in one aspect: being inconsistent. Are they changing their chef regularly or what?

Duel of Champions: Heart palpitation and guilt

I must be getting old. A mere 3 consecutive ranked duels in Duel of Champions is enough to make my heart beat fast and my hands shaking. I'm not sure how to I am going to hit Champion 2 tier before the next reset if this goes on lol.

This is especially true when I use the Sanctuary hero Yukiko - a control deck. I like this deck because of the use of spells in an efficient manner with the help of Coral Priestess's Outmaneuver ability. This deck also has various other means to 'control' the board e.g. Blessed Lake Spirit to deter mass spell, Kabuki Seductress to stop a creature's attack for a turn, Kabuki Propagandist to increase cost of enemey's creatures. Its win-loss ratio is the best among my decks. However, I feel bad losing with it. Each time I lose, I'll say, "I have failed you Yukiko!" I'm crazy lol.

Anyway, the good thing is that I'm also comfortable ranking up with another deck build i.e. Kat. In fact, Kat is usually faster. So I'll alternate between these 2 and I guess I'll have to spread out effort at ranking up instead of going at it for solid 2 hours or so as evidently my heart cannot take it.

Wish me good luck!

Pharmacy Direct (Australia) terrible service

I blogged about my sister's terrible experience with this online pharmacy back in October last year. Notably, it was stated that
Upon my sister's query, the CSO also advised her to put in remarks such as "requires long-dated expiry" for future purchases.
So for a recent purchase of 2 bottles of glucosamine + chondroitin (equivalent to a year's supply), she dutifully followed that advice (I believed she specifically asked for at least a year to expiry) and yet they still provided her with supplement that would expire in 7 months!

When I sister called them about it (and that she followed their advice), the response (given in a rude manner) was that it was a "policy" (to be unreasonable? rude??) and that 7 months was more than adequate. She was given the choice of returning the extra bottle for refund at her own cost which turned out to be about AUD8. Previously, she was able to do that reply-paid i.e. at their own expense.

She then sent an e-mail to them setting out the situation and reasons why it should be reply paid. Thereafter, there was silence. Sheesh.

One Moment In Time

One of the most inspiring songs ever!

Each day I live
I want to be
A day to give
The best of me
I'm only one
But not alone
My finest day
Is yet unknown

I broke my heart
Fought every gain
To taste the sweet
I face the pain
I rise and fall
Yet through it all
This much remains

I want one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity

I've lived to be
The very best
I want it all
No time for less
I've laid the plans
Now lay the chance
Here in my hands

Give me one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel
I will feel eternity

You're a winner for a lifetime
If you seize that one moment in time
Make it shine

Give me one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me
Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will be
I will be
I will be free
I will be
I will be free

Might & Magic: Duel of Champions 7Sep14 update

On 2nd and 3rd Sep, I won my 6th and 7th Swiss tournament. Yay! :) Both were won using Ariana and Kat in duels using Base Set 2 ("BS2") weekly format i.e. only cards from that set were permitted.

As always, they were all tough duels but there was a stark contrast: the 6th win was over opponents (3 of them) that were ranked higher than me while opponents in the 7th win were all ranked lower. Interesting.

The 6th win was especially delightful because I thought I was going to lose the second duel and managed to pull off a victory with 6 seconds left @@. I did a jig and sang "Yay, yay" after I won the tournament lol. Ban joined in the dance and gave me a hug. I repeated this after the 7th win hehehe.

Updated 7/9/2014: Won another with Kat on BS2 format, after trying to win 3 times before (with Kat, Garant, Ariana). So that is the 8th win :)

So to date I won using the following factions:

Necro (2) - both Ariana on standard and BS2 format each
Inferno (2) - Deleb probably on Inferno-only format, Kal-Azaar on "minimum 30 spells" format
Stronghold (4) - 2 Kat on standard and 2 Kat on BS2 format

Still trying to get the elusive Academy win. I tried Sanctuary but couldn't. It just took too much time to think (there's a total time limit of 7 minutes per player).

Batman: The Black Mirror

Batman Black Mirror

I received this graphic novel as a birthday gift from William and Derek (thanks!) few months back and recently I finished reading it. (SPOILER ahead)

Might and Magic: Duel of Champions ongoing

Yes, I am still playing this game. Since the last post, I have managed to win Swiss tournament for the third time and have more or less improved my average result to 3rd/4th position in the tournament. That's good.

I've won it using Necro, Inferno and Stronghold heroes (in that order). I am considering trying to win it next with Academy. Although Sanctuary hero is probably stronger, it takes more thinking and this is a disadvantage in Swiss tournament where there is time limit on each player. Haven hero, for me, has no chance to win it currently.

(Edit: I just won the Swiss tournament again and apparently I miscounted: I had won 4 previously and this is my 5th. Woohoo!)

I was contemplating registering for the global tournament, Road To Paris, organised by Ubisoft but ultimately I decided not to because of the timing: matches start at 1am local time @@. Such late hour will only increase my chance of losing.

I'll try to reach Champion 2 tier before the next reset on 5 Sep but I hesistant to play many ranked duels recently due to my illness :(

Here's a short Youtube video of a duel (IS = the spell Insect Swarm):
