Nearing the end

Symptoms of fast deterioration according to the hospice nurse: 1. The phelgm wasn't in lungs: it was at the throat. It's normal for people at the end of their lives. 2. Lost even more weight. However she said no need to force him eat too much if he felt it was enough. 3. So far pee volume was not too bad but she said it would lessen and be very little. 4. Dad was being less responsive. Others: 1. Feed dad water using syringe and at the side of his mouth 2. Medication for gastric once a day 3. Medication for phelgm twice a day. The next appointment with PCU was during Malaysia's partial lockdown, officially known as movement control order ("MCO"). I called up GH to enquire whether we turned up as usual or not, and I was told that if doctor called up two days before the date, that meant appointment would be postponed. As expected, there was no such call. I called again just to confirm. Unfortunately, I was stucked in PJ because of the MCO. At bes

Penaga chendol

Each time I drove back from Klinik Kesihatan Penaga, I would see the sign of "chendol pulut pisang" on the left side of the road but indicating that the stall was directly opposite. Problem was that there was no such sign on the other side and so it was easy to miss the stall when driving to the clinic. One day, I remembered to search for it. Needed to slow down to find it. Fortunately, the road wasn't busy. Look at how huge it was! This whet my appetite further but alas, it wasn't good at all. It didn't have the typical taste and it hardly sweet. Huge disappointment.

Share investment Mar 20 Part 2

Here are the average dividend yields on cost for shares that have paid out dividends: Share counters (8 of them) with no dividend yields just means that I have yet to receive at least a year's worth of dividends from these companies. The overall dividend yield on cost weighted by invested amount is 5.2%, excluding the 8 share counters mentioned above. There are 10 share counters with dividend yield (on cost) less than 5% (number of consecutive years of this low yield in bracket): Boustead (2) Capitaland (1) iFast (1) Keppel Corp (4) Nordic (1) SATS (5) SIA Engineering (2) Sing Shipping (5) Top Glove (1) UOB (2) SPH and SingPost are excluded. I'm maintaining minimal exposure to these counters as speculative investment. Sing Shipping's historical dividend yield for the past 11 years has consistently been at 4.35%, which is just a tad above my current yield on cost of 4.2%. So I'll be keeping this counter. Here is the average cost of each share c

Ray of sunshine

Since the increased dosage of flunarizine , my mum's migraine had lessened. Also, on my suggestion, she switched from ceterizine to loratadine to manage her sinus and it was working better. I did the switch upon my doctor's advice: he noted that I had been on ceterizine for quite a long time already. There was a couple of weeks of "sunshine" for mum: she was well enough to voluntarily run some errands and exercised for 5-10 minutes. Unfortunately, after receding for those couple of weeks, her dizziness increased back although she was still better than previously: she was up and about longer than previously.

Bedsore

My dad's infection was almost gone a week after seeing Dr P . The main problem then was the bedsore just above his tailbone: it was this rather huge gaping wound. Scary. This area inflicted him the greatest pain, rather than his left leg. After a couple of visits by the hospice nurse, here's the current management: (1) Use Aquacel AG+ on the wound (2) Pieces of small gauze to cover the wound (3) Larger thicker gauze to cover (2) (4) Got dad to sit on a child's float so that the bedsore is lifted up (5) Apply Sudocrem on the rashes My dad's maid claimed that the rashes started only after the float was used. His constipation came back. So we slowly reinstated the relevant medicine, right up to "Lactul x3 daily, Senokot 2 tabs x3 dail, and one time boost Senokot 6 tabs. After about 3 days of constipation, we admnistered enema: thank goodness it worked! Vomiting came back too. Again, on the hospice nurse's advice, we continued the metochlopramide befor

Slight fever

We engaged Eleanor Medicar Ambulance Service (EMAS) to transport my dad to-and-fro Penang Adventist Hospital , for RM 250. As it was our first time doing this, we were a little nervous but fortunately it went ok for all the transitions (bed to ambulance's bed; wheeled into ambulance; wheeled out at hospital; ambulance's bed to hospital bed; and the reverse) except that it was rather bumpy during the ride which caused my dad some pain. Not sure why bumpy. Maybe it's normal for a van? It was good that the driver used siren, although I'm not sure it's legally/morally right to do so. My dad's pain is sensitive to the slightest movement and so long journey is a torture for him. Once at ER (when making appointment, we were asked to send dad there since we were using an ambulance; EMAS concurred based on experience), I was asked to register and to my surprise, Dr P arrived 15 minutes later. After talking with us and checking dad, he ordered blood test and xray. D

Yellow

Two days after Dr J's visit , the hospice nurse turned up with a GP (I think she visited dad before). She noticed that my dad's left leg was a little swollen. After she heard from us that he also had mild fever that regularly came back these past couple of days and that his left leg was sensitive to pressure i.e. painful even with gentle massage, she was concerned that might be abscess in the leg. She advised us to bring dad, via ambulance, to get him checked by an orthopaedic or at least an oncologist. We decided follow-up with Dr P at Penang Adventist Hospital . Meanwhile, my b-i-l noticed that my dad's skin had turned yellowish. Upon query from the hospice nurse, we also found out that his eyes were slightly yellowish and urine was either dark red (if a lot) or dark yellow (if little) but started after taking methadone syrup. Dad's bedsores worsened, partly because of watery poo :( The wound was deeper: coul see inside flesh. 😱 To our suprise, there wasn't
