Bari Uma @Megah Rise Mall

Image
We tried Bari Uma at Jaya Shopping Centre many years ago, probably more than 10 year ago. The ramen was mediocre and so we never went back there again. It had closed down since then. Recently they opened an outlet at Megah Rise Mall but co-exists with another restaurant, Nishiki Shokudo, which specialises in sushi. I was curious to find out whether their ramen was better or not and so one day we had lunch there: I had Ajitama-Uma (the second photo above) while Ban had Shoyu-Uma and added an ajitama to it. While Ban seems to like his noodle (he ordered the same when I had Nishiki's sushi, the next time we were there), I was not satisfied with mine. Firstly, they mixed up our order: his noodle was firm whereas mine was normal. Secondly, the egg wasn't flavoured. Thirdly, the pork serving size was small given the price of the ramen. The only good thing about the dish was its broth. The Shoyu-Uma's broth was great too. Hence, I didn't try it again. Oh well, too bad. On the ...

Holiday Inn Sepang

Image
Since our flight was at just before 9am, this meant that we had to arrive at airpot early to check-in. Despite having the feature to auto-check-in 48 hours on their app, Singapore Airlines asked us to check in at their counter at the airport. My best guess was that they needed to check that we had valid visas to visit Australia. In any case, rather than waking up super early and taking a ride from home while jostling with other drivers going to work, I decided that it was prudent to stay overnight at a hotel near the airport. I settled on Holiday Inn Sepang: it had good rating and review. Also, I had good experience with their hotels in Sydney and Singapore and had signed up as member for those bookings. They had free airport shuttle but from the reviews, I got to know that the earliest departure time was 7am, which the time I aimed to have use arrived at the airpot. It takes only 15 to drive to airport but I didn't want to cut into an already rather thin buffer of 2 hours. Rememb...

Kim Lian Kee

The hokkien mee here was supposedly cooked using charcoal. But definitely not the one served to me: tasted so ordinary. Not worth the price.

Fifth session for thumb/wrist

The next appointment was scheduled 11 days after the last but I was unwell and so I postponed it by another 3 days. When enquired by therapist via WhatsApp, I provided the following feedback: Moving my hand, when closed up in a fist, upward still cause a little pulling pain i.e. no change. There was still sharp pain when I pushed the back of my palm towards me i.e. no change. The sourish pain at the back of my hand, between my thumb and the wrist, was less noticeable i.e. improved. Consequently, she recommended that I stopped the strengthening exercises with the dumbell but continue with the ones with rubber band, in addition to the stretching exercises. On the appointment day, coincidentally I felt sourish pain close to (3) above when trying to open a particularly difficult water bottle container. Once again, after getting my feedback, the therapist massages my right arm and applied ultrasound therapy on the affected area. Thereafter the pain in (1) was gone and later I noticed that...

Serai in ages

Image
We hadn't been to Serai in ages but one day, I suggested it to him when he was hunkering for some nasi kerabu. He was a bit reluctant because Serai's food is generally pricey but changed his mind when his second choice, zaru soba with a meat dish at a Japanese restaurant, was going to be similarly priced :D Nasi kerabu in menu: Nasi kerabu's description: Actual nasi kerabu: Portion-wise, it looked pretty close to that in the menu's picture. Tasted pretty good too, accoding to Ban. I ordered salmon nicoise: Menu:   Description:   Actual:   I think it looked a little smaller than illustrated in the menu but it was refreshingly delicious. Definitely a repeat for me next time. Sadly, the pavlova was a little too sweet :(

Farm Fresh

Image
Bought this Farm Fresh Soy Milk well before expiry date and opened it the day after I bought it: Should had trusted my instinct: I noticed the carton was puffed up and usually I avoided that because of prior experience. I didn't want to return to Lotus's outlet at Paradigm Mall so soon to complain about this and so instead I called Farm Fresh customer care line. The customer service officer asked for my name and phone number so that they could message me further instruction via WhatsApp and the place where I got the soy milk from. The message apologised to me for the "unpleasant experience", an expected gesture but nevertheless appreciated, and asked for "close-up picture of the affected pack along with the expiration date". I gave them that as well as the above photo and receipt. Two hours later, I received a message from them that said, among other things, " We apologize for the unpleasant experience that has happened to you. Perhaps it is due to less...

Dual language

Image
I'm aware there are books published in multiple languages but I had always assumed they would be distributed to different countries until I saw this: It's my first time seeing a book published in two languages, sold side by side.

Fourth session for thumb/wrist

Next appointment is a little more than two weeks after the last session . I provided the following feedback to the therapist: The pain came after hours of continuous driving. The sourish pain at the back of my hand, between my thumb and the wrist, was more noticeable. It happens when I grip. Previously, I only knew of this spot when the therapist massaged that area. For all I know, it was there all this time but maybe I thought the pain I experienced was from the wrist. The pain in the wrist was more prominent when I pushed the back of my palm towards me. Regarding the exercises using the rubber band, I could hold it at the max 8s for about 7 or 8 repetitions but thereafter had to lower it. After some massages, she asked me to test the pain and once again, miraculously the pain level had decreased and stayed that way for hours later (up to when I wrote this post). She recommended the following: Regarding the rubber band exercises, start at 5s. Once I can do it for all 10 repetitions, t...
