Third and last

The current third maid is good and strong too.  My mum, sister and I are happy with her.

My sister's maid, however, was sometimes unhappy with her and after numerous incidents, we firmly believed it was due to two factors: (1) language barrier (English vs Malay language), and (2) that my sister's maid assumed my dad's maid understood partially what she said and later got frustrated when the latter didn't do what she requested (that's because she didn't understand!). Grrrr. My sister already told her not to assume the other understands her. We are seriously considering swapping their roles but this would need my sister's maid consent because her contract specifically excludes looking after old folks.

The other issue is my dad's impatience and forgetfulness. Impatience: if she didn't hear him call, as suggested, he pressed the bell but he would press it again like every 5 seconds thereafter. He complained that she was slow in responding but we observed otherwise. Forgetfulness: Oxynorm takes up to an hour to be effective and we told the maid to give that amount of time for it to work before deciding to give again. He, however, asked for it again half an hour later. When she told him what we told her i.e. that Oxynorm takes up to an hour to be effective, he bitterly accused her of not giving it to an old man in pain. This happened 4 to 5 times a week. It was exhausting to mediate.

So it came to a point where my dad requested new maid. We told him that the current maid is good at her job (which he later agrees). Because of his impatience and forgetfulness, he will not be satisfied with any maid and so we won't be getting a new maid. The other option is nursing home, which he agrees isn't as good as current arrangement.
