Three years
Oh, I forgot to state that the doctor discovered mum was infected with helicobacter pylori (H. Pylori) after the gastroscopy. She was given medicine for two weeks i.e. until the next appointment.
At that appointment, the doctor reaffirmed that the polyp was "normal" based on the biopsy. If there was no polyp at all, he would have recommended a repeat of colonoscopy in 5 years time but since they found one, he advised mum to repeat the procedure in 3 years time. This contrasts with the guideline I found. Hmmm.
He asked whether mum felt better after two weeks of medication for the H. Pylori infection, which she was. He prescribed 4 more weeks of medication (standard treatment, it seems) and a follow-up appointment in 6 weeks time where she will undergo a breath test to check whether the infection is still there or not. Yes, there is a two-week "rest" before the test.
As for the rest of the indicators that were highlighted by various diagnosis,
- It seems that the hemorrhoid isn't disturbing mum and so the doctor said it's ok to just leave it as it is. Frankly, I'm surprised it's even there since mum experiences no symptom whatsover.
- The slight right renal parenchymal disease and mild loss of renal function is quite normal for mum's age. However, mum has to watch out for high blood pressure to prevent further deterioration.
- As for the fatty liver, as expected, he advised mum to control diet and to exercise.
So, overall it's good news.
