MYR50

Recently I received an sms on my Malaysia handphone from a phone number that I don't recognise. The sms asked me to provide him/her my bank account number so that he/she can transfer MYR50 each month to me, preferably to either of two specific banks (one of which is RHB and I forgot what was the other).

I thought it was a scam but on hindsight, it could be a genuine mis-sent. What do you think?

Hmmm...usually scam will "lure" you with more than RM50. So perhaps it was sent to you wrongly? Did you reply?

you could have just replied something that would not reveal your personal information.

hehe..you are a little paranoid at times..but I guess it is good..won't get cheated so easily :P. For me, I would have replied "I think you got the wrong person"..cos it may be very important for the sender or receiver to get the sms. If weird replies comes after that (which happened to me before), I will just stop replying.

You can mms him a nude pic of a guy, and ask the person back: "If you like more of these kinda pictures, kindly bank-in RM50 into my acc!" - Hehe

Lyssa,
No, I didn't reply. Moreover, I received it while in Singapore. Don't want to waste roaming charges (RM2 I think).

William,
I may do that if it's on Singapore phone. Shrug.

Sis,
Yah, I usually adopt the thinking that if it's so important, the sms-er will contact the intended person again.

simonlover,
I could be arrested if do that!

definately a scam. Apparently, the reports of people losing money in these scams in malaysia was in the millions last year. Scammers are making fantastical amounts of money - they're pros. Likely on need an account number they know exists for sure.

AH! Also cos many banks send confirmation messages to your phone. So all they need is your phone number and associated account number, quite likely.

Ban,
That could be true i.e. they could have other information already.
