Longest tennis match

6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (3), 70-68

Nope, the score for the 5th set is not a typo. Mind-boggling, isn't it?

It was during the 1st round of Wimbledon Championship 2010 between John Isner and Nicholas Mahut. Here are some interesting statistics (as obtained from espn.go.com/tennis):
  • Over 3 days, without rain interruption
  • 11hrs 5mins long
  • 183 games
  • 5th set alone lasted 8hrs 11mins, which by itself is longer than the previous longest match record by 98 mins
  • Isner had 112 aces, Mahut had 103 aces (the latter better the previous record by 25)

William,
It's momentous!

it was incredible. longest professional tennis match. Isner had to play 4 consecutive days, the 2nd round was right after the final day of the 3-day match and Isner lost in what was believed to be the shortest wimbledon match. All hats to Isner and Mahut, although I much prefer Mahut to win cuz he's a one-handed backhand player.

Anonymous,
Did you watch?? I couldn't. Free tv in Singapore is stingy :)

Oh, the Americans too were very excited about that match. Tim kept me well informed, and even though I'm not a sports fan, I had to read about it in the papers. After that historically long match, Isner had no chance to endure the next match.SR

SR,
It's historic by a large margin. Yah, didn't expect the winner to win the next round.
