Back to night guard

I tried to do without the night guard for more than a month. At first, it seems ok but recently I kept waking up with soreness at my jaw and something akin to ear ache (but not painful, just...sore?). I think initially I kept thinking that there were connected to my rhinitis as I was experiencing that as well but then I googled the symptoms of teeth grinding. So one night, I used the night guard again and voila! The soreness didn't come back the next morning. Oh, well. Back to it. A day later, while brushing my teeth, I noticed that the troublesome tooth experienced slight discomfort when I applied pressure on it but otherwise, it didn't disturb me. I'll continue to monitor.

Crusader Kings II: Deheubarth campaign - Handover x2

In the middle of my defense against Egiris, my ruler died. Gah. I decided to stand down the defending armies so that I could take the opportunity to declare wars since all defensive pacts, except for the fast-finger Mongols, dissolved against the new ruler. I won all of them but strangely, shortly after I defeated the Tsar of Bulgaria, he declared war on me. He broke the truce!   Ah, yes. By this stage, there's usually nothing particularly exciting (helping vassals in their wars isn't quite there) until the handover time. As usual, after doing some administrative stuff (heir, councilors, guardians), I carefully looked at who I wanted to war upon and how many. I was meticulous enough to notice that I was close to creating the Kingdom of Volga Bulgaria and Kingdom of Anatolia, where thankfully only one vassal had land within each of this kingdoms. I tried not to create kingdom titles that cover realm belonging to multiple vassals: the title holder would war upon the rest :( I was...

Ramen Hitoyoshi @ Starling Mall

Image
I didn't dine at Ippudo as much as I initially intended to because I later realised that the portion was too much for me i.e. too much noodle. I stopped going there altogether when their chasu shrunk to the size of a baby's hand and yet their price was maintained (it was already the most expensive ramen among ramen restaurants). It was during a search for a drinks/dessert shop with our friends that I passed by Ramen Hitoyoshi. I later looked at its Google review: think at that time it was a little lower than 4 but most of the latest reviews were good. I suspected that they improved their service since the complaints? So I decided to try it, with Ban. Price was significantly cheaper than Ippudo's but portion was also smaller. That suited me just fine. What got me excited was this: It was delicious. Their chasu was moist, not dry and of square-cuts, rather than the usual round ones. The broth was thick as I chose "strong taste". "Hard" noodle wasn't a...

Crusader Kings II: Deheubarth campaign - 12th Crusade: Persia

Image
Since I've already created the title Kingdom of Persia and granted it to my vassal, it made sense that the Pope's choice of crusade recipient is that vassal. So that's great because this meant that I didn't need to think hard about who should get it...or so I thought.   Look at the vast Catholic army! As usual, I had already started moving my army more than half a year ago and stationed them accordingly, to maximise my chance of being the winner of the crusade. So it turned out that despite being my vassal, she still became independent upon the success of the crusade after receiving the land. I reloaded and told the Pope, who was my vassal, that I wanted the land myself. Upon victory, I granted to the said vassal who was already the Queen of Persia.

Crusader Kings II: Deheubarth campaign - Handover, Two Byzantine revolt

Image
I was in the middle of defense vs the Bulgarian Tsar when my then ruler died. Unfortunate timing. I had to stand down all armies so that I could take advantage of this golden opportunity to declare wars (out of defensive pact at the start of new ruler). The war against Byzantine was the easiest because my vassal queen was winning her war against the emperor with warscore of 99%. Once he saw additional 30k troop (vs his less than 10k) landed, he almost immediately surrenderer to me. Later, tha Yazidi's caliph declared jihad for Arabia and it slowly gathered more participants. I too had to regularly poured in more troops for the defense. This was last done after finishing the other two wars. Shortly before finishing, Byzantine faced two revolts. I'm still planninng who to attack and for which land.   Attacked both revolt factions. Needed to plan a little to try to quickly finish these asap. The reason I delayed accepting surrender of the second war was because I wanted to defeat ...

Chicken bone in cube?

Image
Until recently, Lotus at Paradigm Mall sold loose chicken carcass. I prefer to buy those as the packed ones sold by Jaya Grocer are too big for me to just cook soup for two people. However, one day (and till now, I think), Lotus stopped selling those but I spotted this: I don't understand what this is. Do you? In the end, I bought a chicken thigh, which is cheaper:

Crusader Kings II: Deheubarth campaign - Handover, Vladimir, Armeniacon

Image
I just started two wars (vs Vladimirian Revolt, and vs Ahamdid Emirate) when my then emperor passed away. Stood down armies so that I could declare war on Byzantine for a courtier's claim on a duchy, whom later I made a baron by giving him my newly constructed barony. I probably could have declared war on more fronts but oh well.   The previous claimant was a non-kinsman and I was waiting for the then King of Vladimir to die so that I could declare war for this claimant and make him my vassal (before the war ends, of course) by granting him my spare county/barony. However, instead, the claimant died and I totally forgot that he was matrillienally married to my kinswoman (it had to be my doing) and so his claim passed on to his son. The Vladimirian king didn't rejoin defensive pact despite giving him more than a year to do so (I'm not taking advantage of that bug where each time I load a saved game, rulers start to leave the pact) and so I declared war on him. Meanwhile, sca...

Home physiotherapy

Image
We we quite happy with Homage's medical escort service and so I was pleased to find out that they also provide home physiotherapy service. The fees are reasonable (plus RM15 transport fee per session): Hence, we engaged one for my mum .  At first, it seems like asking for a weekday appointment made it difficult to get a therapist. Later, it turned out that they were searching for only female therapist but I told them that we didn't stipulate such condition. The conditions we set were: (1) English-speaking, (2) session on a weekday, preferably morning, and (3) doesn't mind the presence of a small dog. The first appointment went quite well, based on my mum's feedback and she agreed to continue the therapy following the therapist's plan. Hence, we purchased the package of 5 sessions. My mum woke up with terrible headache on the day of the second appointment (which is the first session of the package) and thus informed the therapist that she had cancel the session. Homa...

Crusader Kings II: Deheubarth campaign - Capua, Adrianapolis, Samos

Image
My vassal Queen of Lotharingia declared war on Doge of Amalfi to claim Capua. Problem was that she was 52 years old and her main army was far away from Capua and so I was worried she might die before winning the war. Also, depending on how long more the war between Amalfi and Byzantine goes on, she may not have enough troop to defeat Amalfi. So I decided to help her.   This was my second attempt to press a vassal's claim to Duchy of Adrianapolis. The first one ended when my vassal, only in his 40s, died in the dungeon of his liege whom he revolted earlier. I declared that war in spite of it triggering defensive pacts but, as I suspected,  3 notable sovereigns were busy with their own wars. I could handle whomever that responded to the Byzantine emperor's call to arms. Oh well. However, the upside was that my threat level kept going down and once it touched below 90%, a few nations dropped out of pacts, including Byzantine. So my 2nd attempt went much better. Fortunately, I had...

Tremor

My mum's hands had started trembling quite significantly from the first time she was warded at the psychiatric ward back in 2018, if I remember correctly. I was more concerned late last year when I learned that she couldn't properly use utensils to eat and would prefer to use her hand if she was at home. So I advised her to consult the doctor at the Penaga public health clinic during the next appointment. I suspected that they would either ask her to consult Neurology or Psychiatric clinic at hospital, which turned out to be correct: they chose the former, thinking that it might be a sign of Parkinson's disease. I thought they would do some blood tests first.  I googled and told mum that it's highly like not Parkinson's disease because she doesn't exhibit its common symptoms. Meanwhile, her sister highlighted "essential tremor" to us, which fits her symptom better. The neurologist ruled out Parkinson's Disease primarily because of the normal way sh...
